In recent years, there has been an increasing number of juvenile delinquency cases. Last Sunday, a 10-year-old girl was killed in China's northeastern city of Dalian, with authorities saying the main suspect is a 13-year-old boy. The case has once again raised people's awareness of the issue of juvenile delinquency. And the National People's Congress has been working on amending the law to better tackle under-age criminal cases. The draft law addresses many concerns, such as internet addiction among minors. Recent data suggest almost 10 percent of Chinese teenagers show "over-reliance" on the internet. How do we view the measures in the draft on protection for minors in cyberspace? Wang Yongmei, a lawyer with Beijing Huayi Law Firm, says the new draft law helps children to use the internet properly, to protect them from harmful information and cyber-based violence. However, the legislation is just the first step; there is so much more we still need to be working on in China, she said.
