Hong Kong protesters demand the implementation of full universal suffrage for the appointment of the Legislative Council and chief executive. Does it work for Hong Kong? Former Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying says "dual universal suffrage goes against the Basic Law completely" in an interview.
"Hong Kong's financial budget is entirely decided by the SAR Government. The majority of laws in Hong Kong, except for a few national laws that apply in Hong Kong, are local laws. This reflects a high degree of autonomy. So where is Hong Kong's high degree of autonomy from? It is authorized by the central government. Therefore, in the appointment of the chief executive, Beijing must not be pushed aside."
