A large group of protesters gathered in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's (HKSAR) Tsim Sha Tsui on Sunday afternoon, blocking roads in the vicinity of Salisbury Road junction with Nathan Road which resulted in the paralysis of traffic in the area, according to police.
Some protesters attacked police officers with hard objects and umbrellas, despite repeated warnings from the police.
"Police officers have deployed tear gas and will use the minimum necessary force to effect dispersal," the HKSAR government announced on its website on Sunday.

As night fell, the protesters who gathered in Tsim Sha Tsui in the afternoon were still occupying the roads.
The violent acts continued as some protesters set fire to shops in Kowloon's Jordan area and hurled petrol bombs at Sham Shui Po Police Station, according to police.
The police said some masked rioters assaulted a man, who then fell with his head bleeding.
They again appealed to violent protesters to stop all illegal acts and urged bystanders to leave immediately.
