Local authorities confirmed Tuesday that eight people died and two were injured in the construction site collapse that took place Monday in Guiyang City, southwestern China's Guizhou Province.

As many as 10 of the 14 people on site were trapped under the debris when the roof of an under-construction parking lot caved in at around 4:21 p.m. local time Monday, the officials said, adding that three people managed to escape the calamity while one was rescued shortly after the collapse. The two-story parking lot is reported to be 11 meters high. 

An investigation into the incident has been ordered.
