A special committee entrusted with re-writing Syria's constitution after over eight years of civil conflict is meeting in Geneva on Wednesday.

The committee is made up of 150 members from the government, opposition, and civil society aiming to rewrite the constitution and find a political solution for the conflict.

Convened by UN Special Envoy Geir Pedersen, with the Committee's Co-Chairs, Ahmad Kuzbari from the Government, and Hadi Albahra from the Opposition, the body held an opening ceremony in the gilded hall of the UN European headquarters.

The launch is being welcomed by the UN and a number of countries. Turkey, Russia, and Iran all voiced support on Tuesday .

Despite the apparent progress, many remain skeptical about what can be achieved in Switzerland, and whether President Bashar Al-Assad will recognize the result.
