China on Thursday slammed India's inclusion of the Chinese territory in the western sector of the China-India boundary into its administrative jurisdiction as "illegal," "invalid" and ineffective, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said at a media briefing.

"China is strongly opposed to India's announcement of establishing two so-called administrative territories, which places some Chinese territory under the administrative jurisdiction of India," Geng said.

"This practice is illegal and invalid, and won't change the facts that the relevant areas are under China's actual control," he stressed, urging the Indian side to respect China's sovereign rights and interests.

"We urge India to...abide by relevant agreements reached between the two sides, and take concrete actions to safeguard peace and tranquility in the China-India border areas and create favorable conditions to resolve the border issue," said Geng.

He added that India "continued to undermine China's territorial sovereignty by unilaterally changing its domestic law" in an apparent reference to Delhi's move on Article 370.
