The manned cabin made of titanium alloy, a core component of China's new manned submersible, has passed acceptance tests, according to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
Developed by researchers from the Institute of Metal Research under the CAS, the manned cabin featuring lightweight, high-strength and high anti-corrosion capacity can hold three people and has passed a hydrostatic pressure test, the institute said in a statement.
The manned cabin has the largest space and can carry the largest number of people compared with other 10,000-meter manned cabins in the world, according to the statement.
It demonstrates China's advancement in titanium alloy research and manufacturing capacity, and will promote the development of deep-sea manned submersibles and deep-sea research, the institute said.
China is planning to develop new manned submersibles that can dive to around 11,000 meters underwater. The manned cabin is key for human beings to reach more than 10,000 meters under the sea.
