The Hong Kong police Thursday night exercised restraint in dispersing radical protesters who blocked roads and paralyzed traffic in Mong Kok area of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

According to a police statement, protesters blocked Nathan Road and Prince Edward Road West southbound carriageway in Mong Kok, paralyzing traffic. Having given repeated warnings to the protesters in vain, police officers, who have deployed tear gas, "will use minimum necessary force to disperse protesters," said the statement.

"Police warn the protesters to stop their illegal acts. Drivers are advised to avoid travelling to the area and stay tuned to the latest traffic arrangement," the statement added.
