China pledges to shoulder more responsibility as a developing country in UN affairs, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said Sunday while meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the 22nd ASEAN-China summit in Bangkok.

Hailing China's responsibility as one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, Li said China stands firm on safeguarding multilateralism and supports the UN secretary-general in carrying out his work.

In combating climate change, China will shoulder the responsibility as a developing country to promote sustainable development and implement the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement, Li said.

Guterres, for his part, said the current world is undergoing profound changes, warning of the danger of the international order falling into a trap of bi-polarization.

"China's development plays a crucial role in building a multi-polar and peaceful world," he said, voicing the UN secretariat's support for the Belt and Road Initiative.

He reaffirmed China's contributions to the global cause of upholding multilateralism, combating climate change as well as implementing the 2030 Agenda.
