Clashes took place mainly in densely populated commercial districts such as Causeway Bay, Central, and Wan Chai in Hong Kong. The office of Xinhua News Agency in Wan Chai was attacked for the first time. Its glass doors and windows were smashed. Rioters also tried to torch the building by throwing petrol bombs into the lobby, while some Xinhua staff members were still inside. The fire was contained and did not cause any extensive damage. Protesters defied a police ban and took part in a rally in Victoria Park. Elsewhere, rioters blocked roads and set fire to barricades. They threw petrol bombs and bricks at the police.
