Boutin sets record, China bags two golds on Day 3 of ISU World Cup

On day three of the International Skating Union (ISU) World Cup Short Track held in Salt Lake City, Utah, U.S., Canada's Kim Boutin set a new short track world record in the women's 500m.

The 24-year-old from Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, clocked 41.936 seconds in the quarter-finals, before eventually bagging a gold.

Boutin broke the previous world record of 42.335 seconds, also set in Salt Lake City by Briton Elise Christie in 2016. She stormed to win her second gold in the 500m final in 42.336 after winning the women's 1,500m the previous night at 2:22.061.

Boutin was Canada's flag bearer at the closing ceremony of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, in which she became the first Canadian to bag three medals in one Winter Olympics, including a silver in the women's 1,000m, and two bronzes, in the 500m and 1,500m.

Team China claimed two golds, one silver, and one bronze on day three.

Wu Dajing captured first gold in this tournament for China in the men's 500m at 39.072 seconds, beating Shaolin Liu of Hungary and Abzal Azhgaliyev of Kazakhstan.

Team China bagged their second gold in the women's 3,000m relay at 4:08.476 by Fan Kexin, Han Yutong, Qu Chunyu, and Zhang Yuting, with South Korea and Canada winning second and third places.

China's Han Yutong and Zhang Chutong won silver and bronze in the women's 1,000m. The gold fell to Suzanne Schulting of the Netherlands.

ISU World Cup Short Track will move on to Montreal, Canada, between November 8 to 10.
