Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said Monday that Hong Kong must find solutions to resolve the current situation under the framework of 'One Country, Two Systems,' calling on all sides to regard the chaos in Hong Kong as "a political challenge" that must be handled with joint efforts.

"Hong Kong must find the solution under the framework of 'One Country, Two Systems' as Hong Kong is always a part of China," the prime minister said, wishing Hong Kong to restore order soon "as a stable Hong Kong benefits the regional peace."

Li made the remarks when attending the 14th East Asia Summit in the Thai capital city of Bangkok. Regarding the current situation in Hong Kong, Li pointed out that although finding a solution is a challenging task, he hopes the tension can be calmed at an early date.

Li's wife Ho Ching made similar remarks earlier when accepting an interview with Bloomberg. Ho believed that the best option for Hong Kong is to "rethink its role in the region and world."

She suggested Hong Kong residents should first "look deep within themselves" to decide what role they wish to play in and for China, and if they want to play a constructive role in the world.
