Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Brigitte Macron, wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, visited the Shanghai Foreign Language School on Tuesday.

When Peng Liyuan and Brigitte Macron arrived, students waved the national flags of China and France in a warm welcome and presented them with flowers.

Peng and Macron first heard from the principal about the school and international exchanges. Then they came to the French class, where the teacher was teaching Chinese and French food culture. They listened with great interest and kindly answered the students' questions. At a class on China's intangible cultural heritage, they watched students learn traditional crafts such as dough figurines, paper cutting and embroidery and participated in their production.

In the biology class, Peng and Macron watched students make leaf veins pictures and rubbings of eco-friendly bags. In addition, they watched a demonstration of the student's version of a "intelligent and environmentally friendly sorting trash bin."

Then, the students performed Chinese and French songs, dances and traditional operas for the two. Peng said that culture transcends time and space and connects people's hearts. She hoped the youth of the two countries can integrate the two cultures and carry forward the China-France friendship.

Brigitte said she was impressed by their talent and love for French culture, and inheritance of Chinese culture, and urged the young people of France and China to communicate more and make more friends.
