Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony of the second China International Import Expo (CIIE) and delivered a keynote speech in Shanghai on Tuesday.

The president stressed the importance of openness, inclusiveness, balanced growth and win-win outcomes to safeguard an open world economy.

"We should uphold the multilateral trading system, and promote the liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment," he said.

President Xi also vowed to strengthen support for the least developed countries when implementing the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The second CIIE opened in Shanghai on Tuesday and will last until Sunday, after which the country pavilion exhibitions will be extended for eight more days and open to the public for free from November 13 to 20.

According to China's Ministry of Commerce, guests and representatives from more than 150 countries and regions have been invited to attend the expo, with more than 500,000 buyers and visitors from home and abroad expected.
