Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday urged the world to oppose knowledge blockade to avoid creating or even widening the technological divide.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the second China International Import Expo in Shanghai, Xi called for building an open world economy with innovation.

The Chinese president hoped all countries could strengthen innovation cooperation and promote the deep integration of science and technology with the economy.

"We should strengthen the sharing of innovation achievements, strive to break the barriers that restrict the flow of innovation elements such as knowledge, technology and talents, and support enterprises to independently carry out technical exchanges and cooperation", he added.

Xi also called for efforts to strengthen the protection of intellectual property rights jointly.
