"China is now at least 10 percent of our global market share, and we have the ambition of increasing that," says Miren de Lorgeril, the president of Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins du Languedoc (CIVL), or the Joint Trade Council of the Wines of Languedoc.
Located in the south of France, Languedoc is the largest wine-producing region in the world. CIVL is participating in the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai for the first time and has the only wine booth in the French national pavilion.
China consumes more than 20 million bottles of wines from Languedoc appellations, making it the biggest export market for wines from the region, says CIVL, adding that the importance of the market is exactly why it is taking part in the CIIE.
