'The wheelchair girl': I can't run, but my dreams can
By Li Xin, Martyn Fisher

With November 11 – e-commerce giant Alibaba's annual discount sales bonanza – fast approaching, this is a frantic time of year for Chinese online retailers keen for a piece of the action. Fruit-seller Han Wenjing is no exception. What's more, she and her team are hoping that this year's sales carnival will help them raise annual sales to record levels.

In previous years, Han Wenjing dispatched on average 125,000 kg of nectarines to hungry customers up and down the country, generating some 900,000 yuan in revenue.

While that might not be an extraordinary figure in China's current booming e-commerce sector, Han Wenjing's story is one of outstanding successes – she's done it all without the full use of her legs.

Born in 1990,Han Wenjing, nicknamed "The Wheelchair Girl" locally, lost her legs in a tragic car accident at the age of nine. Determined to prove that disability was no bar to standing on her own two feet, in 2013 Han started selling nectarines online.

Successful from its launch, since then it's gone from strength to strength, showing that just because a person cannot walk, it doesn't mean they can't chase their dreams. As Han herself says, "Though I can't run, my dream can."

But there's more to Han's life than business. When she's not busy doing things like registering her online shop, attending e-commerce training classes, and getting ready for the annual Peach Blossom Festival, Han is just like any other girl of her age, hoping for love and companionship.

And she has the same dilemmas too: now it's time to think about getting married, should she listen to her parent's advice or just follow her heart?
