With the arrival of winter, over 3,500 migratory birds flocked to the Guyu Lake in Longchang City, southwest China's Sichuan Province.

Numerous birds from Qinghai and Gansu provinces in northwest China and other low temperature regions arrived in mid October for a pleasant winter.

The birds, including little grebes and little egrets could be seen either foraging on the bank, swimming in the lake, or floating on the water.

"On October 15, the Guyu Lake welcomed the first 20 migratory birds and saw the arrival of over 3,500 birds including mallards, Eurasian green-winged teals and eastern spot-billed ducks," said Wang Linyuan, head of the Longchang Birding Association.

The man-made Guyu Lake was dug in the 1970s and has since become a major stopover and winter destination for birds from Eurasia. Surrounded by green hills and boasting many islets, it is a paradise for various migratory birds.

It is estimated that more than five million birds of over 140 species will winter at the Guyu Lake this year or continue their journey after stopping over for about two months.
