The ongoing China-U.S. trade tensions present an opportunity for China to win over the rest of the world, said Singapore Minister for Trade and Industry Minister Chan Chun Sing on Wednesday.

Chan Chun Sing made the remarks at the China-Singapore Trade and Investment Forum in Shanghai.

"China has the opportunity to seize this moment in history to win the world over, through your superior technology, economics management, geopolitical perspective, and so forth," said Mr. Chan, CNA reported.

Chan also said that China will have greater responsibility for setting the standards of behavior for the world in economics, politics and technology.

Chan witnessed the signing of three agreements at the forum, covering investment, finance and aviation.

A total of 84 Singaporean firms are participating in the second China International Import Expo (CIIE) from November 5 to 10.

Chan said at the expo that Singaporean firms must be bold enough to tap more opportunities in unconventional markets within China.

"I've always encouraged people to look at China not as a monolithic China where there's only one market. We need to explore other parts of China and seize more opportunities."
