FM spokesperson: Can't break bond between CPC and Chinese people
"The Communist Party of China (CPC) always represents the interests of the Chinese people, and thus wins full support of the Chinese people," said China's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang on Friday during a regular press briefing. "Any attempt to break the relationship between the Chinese people and the CPC is doomed to fail," he stressed.
The spokesperson made the remarks in response to U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's criticism of the CPC during his visit to Germany.
Strongly condemning Pompeo's "vicious attack" on the Chinese political system, Geng termed Pompeo's mention of the so-called "China threat" as a product of "ideological prejudice, Cold-War mentality and zero-sum game mindset."
In addition, Geng said Pomepo's remarks were "extremely dangerous" and "fully expose his sinister intentions of using the anti-China stance in exchange of political capital."
"Pompeo's attempt to split apart the Chinese people and the CPC is doomed to fail," said Geng, urging Pompeo to "stop chattering his groundless accusations against China in case he ends up shooting himself in the foot."
