More than one million migratory birds have flocked to the Yellow River Delta Wetland in east China as the winter arrives.

The birds include common crane, Siberian white crane and greylag goose from northern China as well as Russia and Mongolia.

"Every year, from mid-November to the end of December, it is an important period for a large number of birds to migrate here. In the past two days, around 1,000 common cranes and some Siberian white cranes have migrated to our reserve," said Zhang Hongshan, who works at the Yellow River Delta National Nature Reserve.

The wetland is a key habitat for migratory birds to rest and reproduce on their way flying to the south.

"The temperature this year is a bit warmer than the previous years. So, migratory birds will stay longer here, about a month or two, before migrating to the south," said Zhang.

Every year, up to six million migratory birds in more than 360 species gather at the wetland.
