Beiji Village, Heilongjiang Province

In the northernmost part of China lies Beiji Village, also known as Arctic Village – a name that fully explains its chilly weather. As one of the coldest places in China, it keeps the national record for the lowest-ever recorded temperature of minus 52.3 degrees Celsius.

Though these figures may sound scary to some, it turns out that the cold weather is one of the many attractions that draw thousands of visitors to this village each year. The winter season is a bit longer as compared to many other places in the country, from November till the end of April.

At the center of the village, the Arctic Square is the biggest draw where you'll spot the Shenzhou Beiji Stone Tablet along with a post office, some restaurants and inns labeled as "the northernmost." If lucky, you might also be able to witness the aurora borealis, especially after the Summer Solstice.
