Tens of thousands of egrets, usually summer migratory birds, are staying all year round in Poyang, China's largest freshwater lake in east China's Jiangxi Province.
Poyang Lake is an important wintering area for waterbirds in Asia. For egrets, this is where they spend the summer.
But some egrets have decided to stay for the winter, instead of migrating to their wintering grounds further south every autumn.
Experts say this is due to higher temperatures and more food in Poyang.
