An injured white-bellied heron was spotted on Monday on Baoshan City of southwest China's Yunnan Province. The local people and police have worked together and sent the white-bellied heron to a wildlife rescue center for professional care.

As the second largest heron in the world, the white-bellied heron typically resides in quiet riversides or wetlands. However, due to disturbance and habitat degradation, it has been listed as 'critically endangered' on the IUCN Red List since 2007. There are an estimated 200 to 250 white-bellied herons in the world.
