Former Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick is mulling making a late run for the 2020 U.S. Democratic presidential nomination, AP reported on Monday, days after it was revealed that former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg is considering entering the race.
Patrick told Joe Biden last week that he is considering making a last-minute entry into the presidential race, New York Times reported, citing a Democrat directly familiar with the call. But Patrick did not indicate that he had fully decided to run, according to the source.
The former governor also spoke to other party officials, two other Democrats with knowledge of those talks told the paper.
Patrick told party leaders that he didn't think any of the candidates running have established political momentum and that he thinks there is an opening for somebody who can unite both liberals and moderate Democrats, sources said.

Patrick is a close ally of former president Barack Obama. He made history as Massachusetts' first black governor, serving two terms from 2007 to 2015.
Earlier this year, he ruled out a run but has since been talking with Democratic operatives and donors about launching a campaign. His deliberations come as former mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg moves toward his own late entry into the Democratic primary.
On Friday, Bloomberg's spokesman Howard Wolfson said the billionaire media mogul and philanthropist, who served three terms as mayor of America's largest city, is "increasingly concerned that the current field of candidates is not well positioned to" beat President Donald Trump, and he is strongly considering entering the race for the Democratic presidential nomination.
