Chaos also reigned overnight at several universities, with some students advised to evacuate. Hong Kong is experiencing one of its worst phases of violence since protests started five months ago. Beijing's liaison office in Hong Kong says the city is "sliding into the abyss of terrorism" and urgent measures are needed to restore order.
