Hong Kong protesters paralyzed parts of the city for a third day today. Transportation links were shut down, schools were disrupted and many businesses closed. Around 1,000 protesters blocked roads in the city's Central Business District. They marched and hurled bricks onto roads lined with stores. Hong Kong's Education Bureau says all school classes in the city will be suspended on Thursday, citing transportation and safety concerns. Officials have urged protesters to stop the violence. Chaos also reigned overnight at several universities, with some students advised to evacuate. Hong Kong is experiencing one of its worst phases of violence since protests started five months ago. Beijing's liaison office in Hong Kong says the city is "sliding into the abyss of terrorism" and urgent measures are needed to restore order.
