Live: Hong Kong police hold press conference amid escalating violence

Hong Kong Police said on Tuesday more than 150 traffic lights were destroyed, operations in many MTR lines and stations were halted, and buses were stopped and destroyed by rioters. Police once again stressed that this kind of behavior is not the way to reach a solution, but only threatens public safety.

In addition, police said 206 men and 81 women aged 12 to 82 years, most of whom are students, were arrested Monday for offenses including illegal assembly, possession of offensive weapons and attacking police. They also emphasized that no civilized society can tolerate such violence, and appealed to every Hong Kong resident to defend peace in the city.
