Shenzhen Aviators registered their first victory of the recently-started Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) season as they brought an end to Beijing Ducks' unbeaten streak on Wednesday. Playing at home, the South China side registered an emphatic 109-104 victory over their fancied rivals to win their maiden match after losing each of their previous four games. This was Beijing Ducks' first defeat of the season as they won each of their first four games.

It was Shenzhen's Shabazz Muhammad, who spearheaded his side's remarkable show with 35 points and powered them to a much-needed victory. For the capital side, star player Jeremy Lin scored a team-high of 28 points.

Earlier, with seconds to go in the first quarter, Yang Linyi's three-pointer gave Shenzhen a 26-25 lead. However, former NBA champion Lin showed his range with a deep three making it 49-43 for the visitors in the second quarter.

There was a bit of drama on the bench in the third quarter as youngster Shen Zijie argued with Shenzhen coach Wang Jianjin. Shen was eventually sent to cool off in the locker room, but not without a few parting words.

The tantrum seemed to motivate the Aviators as He Xining hit a triple as part of their 19-0 run for an eight point lead. Tied at 104 with two minutes to play, Shenzhen got a second chance and Dwight Buycks made full use of it with a left handed lay-up.

And with just a minute and 20 seconds left for the final hooter, Shen came up with another important rebound which resulted in a sixth three-pointer from He as Shenzhen sealed a morale-boosting victory at home. After his side's away defeat, Beijing coach Yannis Christopoulos said, "I think in the crucial moments, we missed a couple of important rebounds, and that gives them opportunities to score important threes."

Elsewhere, Xinjiang edged past Jilin 112-107 as NBA-return Zhou Qi's double-double kept Flying Tigers on course for another title in their own backyard of Urumqi.

Dominique Jones scored the first basket of the game for the Jilin Northeast Tigers. The CBA scoring leader then fed Zheng Cheng for a three and Jilin took a 7-2 lead.

Jiang Weize then put the Northeast Tigers up by ten points early in the second quarter. But Xinjiang captain Kyranbek Makhan nailed three three-pointers in a row to get the Flying Tigers within five. Zhou Qi went to work in the paint and made back to back three-point plays on his way to 18 points and 15 rebounds.

Zhou's three then gave Xinjiang the lead at 47-46. Subsequently, Yu Changdong's three-pointer beat the third quarter buzzer and Xinjiang held on to their wafer-thin lead of 78-77. With four minutes to go, Jiang scored his fifth three of the game to tie it at 100. However, the Flying Tigers were able to clamp down on defense and collected some key rebounds to go on to win. The 2016 champions are now the only remaining unbeaten team with five wins to start the season.
