This year coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia.

"Standing at a new starting point in the history of China-Russia relations, the two countries have broad and promising prospects on their internet media cooperation," Yang Xiaowei, deputy director of the Cyberspace Administration of China, addressed the opening ceremony of the forum.

Yang stressed that the internet media in the two countries should shoulder the mission, and give full play to their roles as "digital bridge" and "network bond."

He also encouraged media workers to pursue innovative development and more diversified internet-based cultural products to promote cultural integration and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

Alexey Volin, deputy minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation echoed Yang's speech, saying with great potential for cooperation, the internet media of the two countries should make good use of new communication technologies to provide better news content and products for global audiences.

"Media exchanges are an important component of cultural and people-to-people exchanges between China and Russia. In recent years, media exchanges between the two countries have been frequent and fruitful, expanding the cooperation from traditional media to online media, local and youth exchanges," said Volin.

Participants later at the sub-forums conducted discussions concerning the two countries' new media win-win cooperation in the new era, development and cooperation of internet media industry, and media intelligence and convergence in the 5G era. They indicated that it is the common aspiration of both countries to promote cooperation between Chinese and Russian internet media and the industry in a wider range, at a higher level and in more new fields. They look forward to more media exchanges and technical exchanges in the future.

The forum was jointly organized by China Daily, China Internet Development Foundation and the Office of the Jiangsu Cyberspace Affairs Commission.
