The Head of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Friday issued a statement expressing deep condolences for a citizen who was violently attacked by rioters and later died in hospital, and strongly condemned the radical attacks by rioters.
The recent escalation of violent crimes in Hong Kong has seriously threatened the safety of the lives and property of the people of Hong Kong, said the statement.
The statement also said Hong Kong can no longer be in such a state of unrest. All Hong Kong citizens must jointly safeguard the rule of law and maintain social stability.
Recently, more and more citizens have bravely stood up, spontaneously cleared roadblocks, protected the elderly and children who passed the road, and cheered on the police on duty. Their behavior was a reflection of the desire of the people of Hong Kong to bid farewell to fear and restore their peace of mind, according to the statement.
The Hong Kong Liaison Office paid tribute to these citizens, and said it hopes that more people who love Hong Kong can come out and stand up and say no to violence, demonstrating the strong positive energy of restoring social order.
