Nearly 1,000 migratory birds have flocked to the lakes in Bayan Nur City, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, enjoying a peaceful stopover before continuing their journey south.
The birds include whooper swans, egrets, geese and ducks which fall under second-class protected species in the country, according to monitoring data from the local forest public security office.

On a lake along the city's Hanggin Rear Banner, over 300 swans were observed playing in the water, combing their feathers, foraging, and exercising their wings, creating a splendid view of nature for observers.
Plenty of food and improved water quality attract thousands of migratory birds to the region every year, thanks to the efforts made by the local authorities.

During peak migration season, local forest public security officials conduct round-the-clock patrols to intensify the crackdown on illegal hunting of protected species, and enhance people's awareness on wildlife preservation to ensure a safe environment for these seasonal guests.
