A total of 154 people have been arrested in the violent protests in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) over the past weekend, said Hong Kong police on Monday.

Since the violent protests erupted in June, 4,491 people have been arrested for reasons including rioting, possession of offensive weapons and arson, according to the police.

A total of 454 police officers were injured in the protests.

Talking about the operation at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) over the weekend, the police clarified again that they didn't conduct an active raid inside the campus.

The police said they started their operation after the rioters threw petrol bombs at the police. 

Noting the university campus has turned in a "weapon factory," the police also called on all the people who conducted violence at the university to stop their actions and surrender. 

"If rioters continue to use violence, the police are duty-bond to bring them to justice," warned the police, urging them to drop their weapons. "Nowhere in Hong Kong is a lawless land," said the police.

On the same day, Chief Executive Carrie Lam visited the member of the Force Media Liaison Cadre who was shot in the leg by an arrow during the PolyU clash.

Lam expressed her wish for the speedy recovery of the officer and praised him for his courage in carrying out his duties.

Apart from bows and arrows, rioters hurled bricks and petrol bombs incessantly at PolyU, said Lam on Facebook, adding they also burned the pedestrian bridge joining the Hung Hom MTR Station and PolyU.

Police have repeatedly warned the students inside the university to leave immediately and the students should adhere to the warning, said Lam.
