The Heihe section of Heilongjiang River in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province entered its six-moth frozen period after a cold front swept through the province, meaning that a countdown to the Chinese-Russian border river's full closure has begun.

As the world's tenth longest river, the Heilongjiang River (known as Amur River in Russia) is a natural border between Russia's Far East and northeastern China.

The  thick clusters of ice floating on the river attracted a number of visitors.

According to the maritime department of the province, another three sections of the Heilongjiang River at Mohe City, Huma County, and Aihui District of Heihe City have also been frozen over the last few days.
