The Los Angeles Lakers beat the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder 112-107 at the Staples Center on Tuesday, claiming their fifth straight victory. Having dropped 25 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, Lebron James not only achieved his fifth triple-double this season, but also made a new record by scoring at least one triple-double in front of all 30 teams of the league.
"I had no idea. Coach (Frank) Vogel came in here and said congratulations. I was like, I thought he was joking about my seven turnovers because I've been taking care of the ball so much. He said first player in NBA history to have a triple-double versus 30 teams, every team, so I was like, 'OK. That's pretty cool'," said James after the win.

In fact, the two teams chose similar defensive tactics for the game – having a big man remain in the paint and the rest closing in to test the other side's 3-point shooting. However, as the Lakers performed better from downtown (14-9, 45.16 percent-32.14 percent) and had more options for rim protection (JaVale McGee + Anthony Davis + Dwight Howard vs. Steven Adams + Nerlens Noel), the men in purple and gold kept the game under their control most of the time.
The other thing the Lakers did better than the Thunder was the scoring efficiency via the opponents' turnovers. Though the Lakers committed one more turnover than the Thunder (16-15), the home team won in both turnover points (27-11) and fast break points (30-16). Finishing ability became the decisive factor of Tuesday's game.

Carmelo Anthony again walked onto an NBA court after a year, representing the Portland Trail Blazers to challenge the New Orleans Pelicans at the Smoothie King Center. The 10-time All-Star forward worked hard, but his performance was still disappointing, just like the disappointing loss of the Trail Blazers to the Pelicans 115-104.
Having played for 23 minutes, Anthony put down 10 points, four rebounds, five turnovers and five fouls. He buried two 3-pointers but his total field goal rate was only 28.6 percent (4/14). He shot six times in the paint, made only one and saw three of them blocked. Having stayed away from the NBA for a year, Anthony was clearly slow on the court, both with his moving, shooting and passing.

Since Damian Lillard had to sit Tuesday's game out, head coach Terry Stotts put Anthony in the starting-lineup to enrich Portland's offensive solutions. Nonetheless, of the 10 isolation attempts by the 35-year-old veteran, he only made one of them. In fact, Portland began to launch effective counter-attack after Anthony went back to the bench.
Anthony should not be blamed for the loss. The whole team played extremely simple offense – either isolation play or pull-up shooting after screen. Their assist number per game was only 18.6, the lowest of the whole league. Once their shooting percentage fluctuates, the team's offense can easily fall into trouble.
"I thought for having a morning shoot around that he looked pretty good. I thought every shot he had, he was getting a good look at the basket," said Stotts about Anthony after the game.

In the other two games on Tuesday, the Sacramento Kings defeated the visiting Phoenix Suns 120-116 at the Golden 1 Center, pocketing the sixth win in the past eight games. Five players scored double-digit points for the Kings and the biggest contribution came from Bogdan Bogdanovic who shot down 31 points and made seven 3-pointers off the bench.
After five consecutive losses in the beginning of this season, Sacramento's young men have been continuously improving their game. In their past eight games, the team put up the league's top 10 defense and beat several heavy weights like the Uta Jazz and the Boston Celtics. When De'Aaron Fox and Marvin Bargley III come back, there's still time for Sacramento to go for the playoffs.
In another game on Tuesday, the Golden State Warriors put an end to their awkward losing streak by beating the Memphis Grizzlies 114-95 at the FedExForum. Alec Burks scored 29 points and eight rebounds for the Warriors. One-year rookie Ja Morant had 20 points and six assists for the Grizzlies.
