This episode of "Beautiful Countryside in China" traces an age-old village in east China's Anhui Province that is known as a secret paradise for photographers. Though not as famed as the ancient villages of Hongcun and Xidi that have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage sites, Shitan Village is a perfect alternative for an idyllic trip with unspoiled landscapes.

Hidden deep in the mountainous area in Huangshan City, the village of Shitan is over 800 years old.

The Huayuan River and Changyuan River flow from the foot of the mountain and converge. 

March and April are the best time to appreciate the rapeseed flowers in full bloom. When summer approaches, a salvo of sunflowers start to blossom. That's also when shutterbugs flock to the place and scout out the best vantage points.

Strolling along the flower-scented path helps you empty your mind and simply focus on the presence. You can also stay at one of the local families' houses and enjoy the local specialties as well as hospitality.
