Hundreds of people gathered at the Bifengxia Base of China Conservation and Research Center of Giant Panda in Ya'an to welcome panda Bei Bei's return to China. Bei Bei looked well but will only meet the public after his one-month quarantine, during which time he will acclimatize to his new home, get used to local food and his new keeper. Bei Bei is the 18th overseas-born giant panda to return to China, and there are still 32 pandas living abroad including Bei Bei's parents Mei Xiang and Tian Tian.
