Voters in Hong Kong are expected to cast ballots in district council elections on Sunday. The elections will be the first citywide polls since violent protests erupted in June. A record 4.13 million people have registered to vote this year. A total of 1,090 candidates will compete for the 452 seats in 18 districts. Each councilor elected is to serve a four-year term. The district councils are consultative bodies, typically concerned with local issues like bus routes and community facilities. Over 600 ordinary polling stations and 23 dedicated polling stations will be open on the polling day.
