China wants to boost cooperation with Russia in fields like technology innovation to enrich bilateral cooperation in the new era, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Japan.

China and Russia have expanded practical cooperation through joint efforts, achieving results that satisfy the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties, Wang said on Saturday.

In a world facing great uncertainties, China and Russia have reached a consensus to uphold multilateralism, Wang emphasized, encouraging both sides to contribute to world peace and stability within multilateral frameworks, such as the BRICS mechanism.

Echoing Wang's stance, Lavrov hailed enhanced bilateral ties and showed his willingness to plan more high-level exchanges.

Russia will continue to work together on major strategic issues with China, Lavrov added.

Wang is on an official trip to Japan for the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in the Japanese city of Nagoya.

Wang urges Canada to improve ties

Wang also held separate meetings with Chilean Foreign Minister Teodoro Ribera, Canadian Foreign Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne, Dutch Foreign Minister Stef Blok and Japan's Aichi Governor Hideaki Omura on Saturday.

When meeting with Ribera, Wang said China supports Chile's efforts to restore public order amid weeks of protests, noting that China has "full confidence" in Chile's development prospects.

Ribera said the Chinese government will always prioritize the interests and needs of the people and has been effective in understanding people's demands and improving their livelihood, adding Chile can learn from China's practices and experiences.

When meeting with Champagne, Wang urged Canada to take tangible measures to bring bilateral ties back on the track of normal development, as relations between the two countries have worsened following the arrest of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou in Canada last year.

Champagne said Canada is willing to make joint efforts with China to rebuild mutual trust and bring their ties back to the right track as soon as possible.

When meeting with Blok, Wang said China welcomes the Netherlands to participate in the Belt and Road Initiative, calling on the two sides to strengthen practical cooperation in areas such as ports and infrastructure.

Blok spoke highly of China's achievements in poverty alleviation and development, noting that the stable development of China is providing opportunities for the two sides to enhance cooperation.

When meeting with Omura, Wang said he appreciates Aichi prefecture's long-term commitment to the friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, and encouraged the prefecture to seize opportunities resulted from improvement and development of bilateral relations.

Omura introduced the friendly exchanges and cooperation between Aichi prefecture and China's Jiangsu, Guangdong and Shandong provinces.

China's development 'unstoppable'

During the meeting with his Dutch counterpart, Wang also said China's development bears a historical trend that is unstoppable.

Any attempts to play a "zero-sum game" will end in vain, he said, urging the U.S. side to embrace the approach of win-win cooperation.

He condemned the U.S. for deliberately interfering in China's internal affairs and sabotaging Hong Kong's stability and prosperity.

The United States, with its unilateralism and hegemonism mindset, has become the world's biggest destabilizing factor, Wang said, slamming Washington for sanctioning Chinese enterprises and fueling trade disputes.
