At least one dead as M5.2 earthquake jolts S China's Guangxi

At least one person died and four others were injured after a magnitude 5.2 earthquake jolted Baise City, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, at 9:18 a.m. BJT on Monday, according to local authorities.

The epicenter, with a depth of about 10 km, was monitored at 22.89 degrees north latitude and 106.65 degrees east longitude, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

The casualties were reported from Daxin County near the epicenter.

A strong tremor was felt in nearby cities, including Jingxi, and Nanning, the autonomous region's capital, local media reported.

The emergency department of Jingxi said falling rocks and house cracks have been spotted in some areas, and aftershocks have been reported.

A rescue team went to the epicenter to carry out relief work, authorities said.
