A gas "outburst" in a coal mine killed one person and trapped six others in Zhijin County, Bijie City, southwest China's Guizhou Province, on Monday morning, according to local authorities.

One person has been successfully rescued and has been sent to the hospital for further treatment.

The cause of the incident is not immediately clear, and rescue work is underway.
