Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday called on military academies and schools across the country to deepen reform and cultivate a new type of military personnel who are competent, professional and possess both integrity and ability. 

Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks at the opening of a training session for heads of military academies and schools. 

He called for efforts to improve education of military personnel for building strong armed forces, urging military academies and schools to deepen reform and innovation. 

Meanwhile, the whole military should support military academies and schools and prioritize their improvement, Xi added. 

The event was held at the National Defense University of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) in Beijing.
