The Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of China's State Council said the act severely violated international law and basic norms governing international relations. The Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong also condemned the move, saying it was essentially supporting the actions of rioters, and was an attempt to destabilize the region.
