Despite the gusty wind, the 93rd annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade goes on as usual, featuring dozens of iconic balloons in New York City, U.S., November 28, 2019. /VCG Photo

Due to windy weather conditions, this year's balloons are nearly grounded. The giant balloons are held tightly by parade volunteers who fight with the strong wind. /VCG Photo

As many as 3.5 million spectators from near and far lined the 2.5-mile route for the annual parade. /VCG Photo

First started in 1924, the event has been a holiday tradition for nearly 100 years. Balloons first appeared in 1927, replacing live animals from the Central Park Zoo. /VCG Photo
