Hong Kong's housing market has seen skyrocketing prices for many years, even though there has been a drop in some sectors triggered by the protests. Housing has been a critical issue for the government in Hong Kong since the late 1990s, with each new SAR chief putting forward plans to help mitigate the pressure. But in reality, implementing the proposals has never been straightforward. So there remains a need for more workable solutions to ease the housing misery of those at the bottom of the market.
