Chinese schoolchildren compete to build AI-powered robots

More than 200 groups of teenagers have gathered in Beijing to attend the 2019 Robo Genius Global Youth Robotics Challenge Finals. The event is put on by the China Science and Technology Museum.

Robo Genius focuses mainly on education in Artificial Intelligence (AI). It encourages teenagers to learn more about AI and robotics by participating in challenges, competitions and TV shows, for example. The result is to help young people gain skills and psychological growth while both learning and having fun.

At the opening ceremony, robot Tsinghua Hephaestus played soccer. It represents the spirit of education in AI being passed from scientific researchers to young people.

This challenge inspires young people's scientific and technological innovation through creative construction, logical programming, motion control and also teamwork.

The 2019 Robo Genius Global Youth Robotics Challenge Finals run from November 29 to December 1. In the following two days, several rounds of competittions will determine the Captain Soccer.
