In an interview with CGTN's Liu Xin, Lau Siu-kai, renowned Hong Kong sociologist and emeritus professor at the University of Hong Kong, said the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act was an unwise move on the part of the U.S. government as it tied the government's hands in handling its foreign affairs. He said those who called for this act were actually reaping results opposite to what they had hoped for as this move could only force the Chinese government to augment its governance of Hong Kong to counter any foreign influence.
