Flocks of migratory birds have been seen at a wetland in Lujiang County, Hefei City, east China's Anhui Province.
The wetland, with an area of 3,000 hectares, has become an important transit place attracting a large number of migratory birds.
Local residents have taken it upon themselves to protect the birds. They have written voluntary bird protection into their "village rules and regulations".
They value the presence of many rare birds, including Eurasian spoonbills, grey cranes and Oriental storks.
