Domestic abuse: a threat to whole families, communities

On November 25th, 1960, three sisters were assassinated in the Dominican Republic because of their political activism against a dictator. However, their deaths didn't have the desired effect, and instead only served as a catalyst for his overthrow not long after. Thirty-nine years later, the United Nations General Assembly declared that date as "the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women." Among all types of violence, domestic abuse is an ongoing invisible epidemy. The statistics are shocking, and it's seen as a threat to whole families, communities, and generations.
