China began the negotiations over pricing with pharmaceutical companies three years ago. The aim is also to make the prices acceptable to both the producers and medical insurance funds. This year's negotiations began in mid-November. Almost all imported prescription drugs have had their prices lowered. Pharmaceutical companies including Roche and Novartis have agreed to cut the prices of some of their newest medicines by an average of 61 percent.
