At least 14 people have been shot dead in eastern Burkina Faso, according to government officials, who said that the attack on a church happened on last Sunday morning. It took place in the village of Hantoukoura, near Burkina Faso's border with Niger, which is known for banditry, but has also seen a spate of attacks from suspected jihadist groups with links to al-Qaeda and ISIL. This latest incident occurred during worship. It mirrors other attacks on Christians this year, a relatively new phenomenon for Burkina Faso which prides itself on religious tolerance. This year's violence has killed hundreds, and has forced nearly one million people from their homes.
